Your worth should not be determined by what those around you are doing. When you compare yourself to others, it is a harmful act and only robs you of your blessings.
When you stop comparing yourself to others and only compare yourself to who you were yesterday –
You open your eyes to your full potential.
COMPARISONS KILL
Comparing yourself to others is very damaging to your sense of self.
When you do this, you risk catching feelings of envy, low self-esteem, and depression.
And when you participate in comparing yourself to those less fortunate, you risk other damaging thoughts.
Even if you think it’s harmless, this form of thinking requires pleasure in someone else’s failures or misfortunes.
When comparisons lead to you devaluing yourself or others around you, that is when you’ve crossed to a dangerous frame of mind.
Not to mention, what you are comparing is inaccurate information. Usually, the image you see of someone is an edited version of what their life really looks like.
You never know what someone’s life behind doors looks like.
So, it’s not fair to yourself or them for you to make comparisons.
But there is someone that you do fully know behind closed doors.
You guessed it. It’s you.
WHY YOU SHOULD ONLY COMPARE YOURSELF
The only time comparisons help you reach your goals is when you compare yourself to who you were yesterday.
If you have a picture of the person you want to be, then how are you going to get there?
Well, you make goals.
Then you incorporate those goals into your daily life.
And each day you do your best and try to do better than yesterday.
If your goal is to run a mile a day, so you can live a healthy lifestyle.
Then you don’t beat yourself up because there are people in your life that can run 3 miles a day.
You focus on YOUR goal.
And if you don’t hit your goal one day, then you try again the next.
If you constantly focus on building yourself and bettering yourself, then you will hit your goals!
This also helps you build a positive mindset by constantly evaluating yourself and making small but positive changes in your life.
Plus, it’s very fulfilling to look back on the steady improvements you made in your life.
FINANCIAL COMPARISONS
This is a really important concept in every aspect of life, and since this is a financial blog, then let’s look at how this applies financially.
You NEVER truly know someone’s financial situation. So, again, it’s not fair to be envious of them or degrade their financial status to make yourself feel better.
You may look at someone’s life and be jealous of their nice car or nice home, but in all actuality, you’re better off financially.
Because maybe they’re struggling to make ends meet with their loan payments.
Or you may look at someone that lives a “below the means” life, you know, a lower quality car or a lower quality home. But really they’re excellent with money and are maybe even secretly a millionaire. They just don’t look it.
Hopefully, this helps you understand that it’s never fair to compare.
Only focus on yourself and bettering yourself for the person you want to be.
So, what will you do to make yourself better than you were yesterday?
