5 Steps To Find Your Why

3. 5 Steps to Find Your Why_image

Are you having a hard time finding the determination to stick to a budget? Or to pay off debt? Or to reach your financial goals?

You know that you want to stick to it, but for some reason, you can’t seem to keep on track. Or maybe you can’t even find the motivation to start.

The issue lies in not knowing you’re why. First, you need to discover your why before you can get any lasting motivation to reach your financial goals.

Warning: Finding your why can be emotional, and it should be. You may cry or experience heartache.

All of that is good. All of that is what you need.

So, why do you care?

Why do you want to follow a budget?

Why do you want to organize your finances?

Why do you want to be intentional with your money?

Good question! Because you are the only one that can answer that.

Now, of course, I’ll help guide you to finding YOUR why. But at the end of the day, I can’t make a cookie-cutter “why” for everyone.

We are all so different. We are all experiencing life differently and have been dealt different cards. So, that means everyone’s why will be different.

If you want to get some inspiration on finding your why, you can check out my blog post on, Why Should You Care About Money.

Now let’s get started! Because the sooner you find your why – the sooner you find the motivation to take your first step towards being better than the person you were yesterday!

Luckily, finding your why is very easy and only takes a few simple questions –

1. Why do you want to be better with money?

Typically, this answer is very vague and that’s okay.

An example answer is, “because I’m tired of being broke”.

2. Now, ask yourself why to your answer above.

For example: “why are you tired of being broke?”

Example Answer: “because I want to be able to afford things for my family and myself.”

3. Good, now repeat step two. Ask why again.

For example: “why do you want to be able to afford things for your family and yourself?”

Example Answer: “because I don’t want my family to see us struggle financially like I witnessed as a kid.”

4. Keep going! Ask why again.

For example: “why don’t you want your family to see you struggle financially?”

Example Answer: “because I want to set a good example financially for my family, so they have a better head start and idea of money than I did.”

5. Almost there! Ask why one more time.

For example: “why do you want to set a good example financially for your family?”

Example Answer: “because I want the poor money management to end with me, and to change my family tree!”

Now, you can keep going if you don’t feel heartache and deep motivation by step five. Just continue to ask yourself WHY to each answer to find your true purpose and motivator.

Feel free to share your why in the comments, I’d love to hear them! And you may just help someone else recognize a why that they didn’t know they had.

You are the only person who can convince yourself to be better than the person you were yesterday!
